ECU Remapping and Chip Tuning (Chipping)
Remapping or Chip Tuning is the process of changing the software in the ECU (the cars brain) to run more efficiently, which also means we can give you an increase in power and economy by making sure the correct amount of fuel and air enter the engine and that it is burnt at the correct time.
What is the difference between Remapping and Chip Tuning?
Remapping is done through the OBD port, Chip tuning is done by replacing the actual chip inside the ECU with a reprogrammed version. The process is effectively the same thing and gains the same end result.
Why are the gains higher on newer cars?
This is not always true, but the main cause of this is because later ECU's have a more complex mapping system with more points to change. This gives a greater flexibility and enables greater fine tuning.
Why Remap, and not use a tuning box?
Tuning boxes fool the ECU in to thinking that the fuel/air parameters are different than they actually are. The main thing you will notice from tuning boxes is the amount of smoke produced. This is because the box increases the amount of fuel being injected and does not increase the amount of air. This means more smoke, and decreased Turbo/exhaust/engine life. Although some digital tuning boxes are better, their price is generally more than a remap. The only benefit is that you can take it off your car, however we do discounts for second vehicles so this is not really a good reason!
Prices vary from car to car, so please email us with full details of your car, and we will give you an exact price.
